  • Reign Over Me
Not great, not bad. Kinda depressing at times.

  • Ratatouille
Cute cartoon movie about a rat that likes to cook.
  • National Treasure (second one)
Lots of fun and action, in a light hearted way. Certainly not Oscar material, but it was a most enjoyable way to spend a Saturday evening.
  • Sweeny Todd
Very Tim Burton, kinda dark and mysterious. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were excellent. Lots of squirting blood, and a bit gorey.
  • Juno
Totally cute and fun movie. Ellen Page is fantastic, and the supporting cast was exceptional too. Very endearing story.
  • I Am Legend
Very good and suspensful, but scary. Will Smith did a great job!
  • American Gangster
    Excellent film.
  • We Own the Night
Enjoyable, leaves you on the edge of your seat.
  • Dan in Real Life
I really loved this movie, and I am not a Steve Carell fan. Great story and I love the story line of big families getting together. Great house too!

    Very cute.
  • The Kingdom
    Enjoyable, but lots of violence.

Action packed Bruce Willis film...we loved it.
  • The Last Mimzy
    Not great, not bad.
  • The Nativity Story
    Nice family film.

Done in black and white...very Perry Mason-like feel. Stars George Clooney (looking mighty fine in a uniform). Interesting.
  • Hollywoodland
    Not that great.
  • Running With Scissors
    YUCK. Too many dysfunctional people.
  • Apocalypto
Wasn't sure I was up for this, but it was very well done and even though it was all subtitled, it draws you in right away. Excellent suspense movie!
  • Bourne Ultimatum
If you like the series, this is for you. Lots of action.
  • Factory Girl
So so...Movie about the life of Edie Sedgewick when she hung around Andy Warhol. People with too much money getting into trouble..

    Enjoyable, but not great.
  • The World's Fastest Indian
Wonderful....Stars Anthony Hopkins as an older gentleman who wants to break the worlds land speed record.

  • Perfect Stranger
Stars Bruce Willis and Halle Berry...not bad, unexpected ending.
  • The Ultimate Gift
Loved it...great family movie and great message.
  • Wild Hogs
Cute, but not really my style. Middle-aged men on a motorcycle adventure.
  • The Nanny Diaries
Stars Laura Linney and Scarlet Johansen. Similar to the book, but a bit different. Not bad, but not great.
  • Becoming Jane
Loved it...Stars Anne Hathaway as Jane Austin.
  • Georgia Rule
Not bad, but mature subject matter. Stars Jane Fonda and Linsey Lohan.
  • The Shooter
Wonderful action film starring Mark Wahlberg.
  • Blood Diamond
Excellent, but sometimes hard to watch due to the brutality.
  • Driving Lessons
This movie stars Laura Linney, Rupert Grint (Ron Weasly from Harry Potter), and Julie Walters. The story centers around a young man, Ben, who starts working for an aging actress (Julie Walters). She takes him on an adventure, and his mother (Laura Linney), an evangelical Christian, is not too happy. Slow paced, but interesting. Not for everyone, but if you like British films, you will probably enjoy this one.
  • Radio
Recently rented this because I had not seen it in the theater. Loved the story and the interaction of the people in the story. Really positive and uplifting. If you have not seen it, I would definitely rent it. Great family movie!
  • Infamous
Story about Truman Capote during the time he wrote In Cold Blood. Exceptional acting and interesting watch.
  • Nancy Drew
Blair and I went to see this with one of her friends, and we LOVED it. Cute story, love the outfits, great message about staying true to who you are.
  • Spiderman 3
If you like the Spiderman series, you will most likely enjoy this film. Not much new, but a fun watch.
  • Miss Potter
LOVED IT!!! This was the story of Beatrix Potter and was just the movie for me. Light and beautiful. Wonderful characters, costumes, scenery, and cute animated drawings. Probably not for everyone (I think Blair was bored), but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • Keeping Mum
British dark comedy about a housekeeper who comes to live with a vicar and his family. The family is falling apart, but somehow she manages to start pulling them back together and anyone who is causing them problems seems to be missing. If you like British comedy, this is a good watch.
  • The Last King of Scotland
Fictional movie about a Scottish doctor who becomes the personal physician to Ide Amin. The acting was excellent, but the story was quite hard to watch in places. I can appreciate the movie for all of its excellent qualities, but not really my kind of movie.
  • Vera Drake
Movie set in the early 1950's in London about a woman who is a wife, mother, housekeeper, and helps girls who are in an unfortunate situation. Excellent acting, but I wanted more at the end. Subject matter not recommended for younger kids.
  • Breach
Movie about the spy Robert Hanssen. What an intesting film and what a strange man Robert Hanssen was! I really enjoyed it and thought Chris Cooper and Ryan Phillipe were excellent. Recommended.
  • Real Women Have Curves
Cute movie about a young high school graduate who wants to go to college, but her family wants her to work in her sister's dressmaking shop. Recommended.
  • Pan's Labyrinth
WOW! What an interesting movie. A bit gory and cruel in parts, but certainly worth seeing. The movie is in Spanish with subtitles, but it draws you in so fast that you don't even realize it til the movie is over. It kind of reminds me of a Harry Potter for adults with fantasy characters and a young girl who has to be brave and perform some tasks that none of us would ever thing of doing (like going in the muck and bugs to find a mega huge toad in the middle of a large oak tree, ewww). Mark loved this movie too. It definitely deserves to recieve some awards!!! Hope you find some time to check it out!!!
  • Dreamgirls
PHENOMENAL!!! We LOVED this movie, and Jennifer Hudson is AMAZING!!!
  • The Pursuit of Happyness
Yet another excellent film. Super story and I love the perserverance and attitude of the Dad (Will Smith). Great lessons and love the ending. We all walked out of the theater with a smile, I like that.
  • Night at the Museum
Excellent movie, lots of fun!! We saw it at the IMAX for extra impact and had a great time! Lots of recognizable faces in this movie too!!
  • Casino Royale
A new James Bond and a new feel to the movie. Seemed a bit less flashy than the past Bond movies. Still a good action flick and we all enjoyed it.
  • Happy Feet
Great movie. Lots of fun and excellent message. Good for adults and the kiddos.
  • The Holiday
Excellent girlie film. Blair and I loved it.
  • You, Me, and Dupree
A cute film when you want something that is light and funny.
  • Joyeux Noel
This movie is a foreign film which takes place during WWI on the frontlines with soldiers from Scotland, France, and Germany. They decide to call a truce for Christmas Eve. It is probably not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.
  • The Departed
Hmmm. Well Mark REALLY wanted to see this and he is a big Jack Nicholson fan, so he loved it. I, on the otherhand really did not care if I saw it or not. I don't particulary care for ganster type movies. The acting was good and the story ok, but lots of bloody gore. Not really my type of movie.
  • Monster House
This animated feature had some pretty funny clips, so we decided to rent it. Cute, but I would not recommend it for really young kids beause it might be a tad scary. Interesting idea, but I would not rush out to see it.
  • Hoot
Blair and I really enjoyed this movie about some kids to want to stop a pancake house from being built on some land where owls live. Great story!!!
  • The Sentinel
Decent suspense movie, but not great.
  • The Insider
This is an excellent drama about the 60 minutes expose on the tobacco industry. Excellent acting and really interesting, yet scary story. Mark was mezmerized and gave it a 2 thumbs up.
  • Vanity Fair
Rented this one from Blockbuster recently and it was enjoyable. This is a period piece about a girl who tries to better her life through the people she meets and enchants. It was enjoyable, but Blair did not care for it. She had a hard time keeping up with the plot (but she was on the computer at the same time, so not really paying attention closely).
  • RV
I love almost anything that Robin Williams does, so this was a must see for me. Blair and I laughed A LOT and were sometimes grossed out too (when he had to dump the waste from the RV). I liked that it had a nice ending too.
  • Good Night and Good Luck
Set in the McCarthy era it is an interesting look at what those times must have been like. The black and white film really adds to the feel of the era for this film.
  • John Tucker Must Die
Mark and I went with Blair and her friend (who had already seen it). We laughed and thought it was quite fun. The girls and I thought it kinda reminded us of Mean Girls. Not Oscar material, but an enjoyable, fun movie!
  • Matchpoint
Not your typical Woody Allen movie. Interesting ending, but some parts seemed a bit slow.
  • Shopgirl
Interesting story. Not one of my favorites, but it was worth watching.
  • Save The Last Dance
    Enjoyable and loved the dancing.
  • Little Man
Went to see this with Blair and her friend. We all liked it and laughed quite a bit. Just to see the little guy in his onsie with the bunny ears is enough to make me laugh. Obviously not oscar material, but if you are looking for light comedy, this is a good one.
  • Rumor Has It
Rented this one and finally got to see it on Friday night since Mark worked later than we hoped. Glad I didn't pay big money to see it at the movies. I actually ended up falling asleep, but Blair told me the ending. Not one I'd highly recommend.
  • The White Countess
The last collaboration between Ismail Merchant and James Ivory. A lovely film set in Shanghi prior to the Japanese invasion of the late 1930's. The main characters are a blind American diplomat and a Russian Aristocrat who is working as a dance hall girl to earn a living. Great characters and story.
  • A History of Violence
Rented this the other night and although it was well acted, I just didn't like it. It had several scenes which were QUITE steamy and so not appropriate for teens (it is rated R for good reason). It also had some violence (like you didn't know that) which as not pretty. I guess the ending was just not what I was hoping for or expecting.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
Yeah!! Finally got a chance to see this tonight and WE LOVED IT!!! Great effects and lots of fun. I would not take small children, because some parts could be scary for them. If you liked the first movie, you will like this too!
  • Best in Show
This is one of those ensemble movies about several sets of people who own pets and like to go to dog shows to compete. I had been wanting to see this for ages. It was such a hoot and so much fun to watch. Probably not for everyone, but Blair and I found it most enjoyable.
  • The Greatest Game Ever Played
This movie is about a young man who dreams of being a great golfer and is very talented, but gets discouraged by his father and the snooty rich golfers of the day. I had planned to see it in the theater, but missed out, so we rented from Blockbuster. I really loved the story, and it was good for all ages. I especially loved the relationship between the golfer and his caddy (a 10 year old boy). I highly recommend this as a great family film!
  • The Lake House
Blair and I saw this and really enjoyed it. The concept is a little tough (for me anyway), trying to figure out who is ahead in time and who is behind. I really liked the characters and I'm glad we got a chance to see this!
  • Garden State
Just caught this last night on HBO. Had been wanting to see it, but never got around to renting it. It was a bit strange at first, trying to figure out what was going on, but the more I watched, the better I liked it. Blair liked it too, althought she came in after it had be on for a while, and there was one part where she had to cover her eyes and ears (thus the R rating). The gist of the story is that a man living in LA, (trying to make it as an actor, but works in a restaurant) that has to come home to New Jersey for his mother's funeral. He has a bunch of quirky friends that he has not seen since he was about 16 and a bad relationship with his father. Then he meets this girl in a doctor's office. He and this girl and his friends hang out and have a little adventure, while he starts to find out what he wants in life. Overall, I thought it was worth watching.
  • The Devil Wears Prada
LOVED IT, in fact all 3 of us loved it! Great story and the characters were fun to watch. I am a big fan of Anne Hathaway (from the Princess Diaries), so I new it would be something I'd like to see. Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci were terrific as well!!!
  • The Breakup
Blair and I saw this and it was good, but not the ending I expected. Had some funny moments, but I don't think I'd rush out to see it.
  • Poseidon
This was a real nail-bitter. It will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. All three of us saw this and we liked it.
  • The DaVinci Code
Very Good, and suspensful, but make sure you watch and listen closely. I am not sure how much Blair liked this one. Mark had not finished the book yet, but he at least had an idea of what was happening. I think the actors did a great job, and overall I give it a thumbs up, but it is not for everyone.
  • Akeelah and the Bee
FANTASTIC!!! Blair and I loved this movie. It is such a positive movie and really shows how perserverance and postive attitude can make things happen. You will definitely walk out feeling good! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED****
  • Mission Impossible 3
Very suspenseful and good plot. Interesting twists. We all enjoyed it a lot.
  • Stick It
Really good teenage girl movie. Blair loved it, and I enjoyed it as well.
  • Inside Man
Very good, and I highly recommend it. Mark and I both liked it a lot. Interesting story and nice twist.
  • Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
    I enjoyed this!
  • Capote
Interesting and well acted, but not one of my favorites.
  • She's the Man
    Cute teenagey movie.
  • The 40 Year Old Virgin
Actually I did not watch it, but Mark did. He thought it was ok, but nothing great.
  • Crash
Rented it this weekend, and I did not really care for it. In fact, I feel asleep about 45 minutes into it. Mark liked it and thought it was very well done. I think the subject was too disturbing and depressing, and I was just not in the right frame of mind to watch it.
  • Eight Below
*** EXCELLENT!!! All three of us loved this movie!
  • Firewall
LOVED IT!!! On the edge of my seat the whole time. Harrison Ford still rocks!
  • Rent
I actually liked the movie better than the play. It was much easier to tell what was going on, and easier for me to follow. I liked the music more than I remembered. Just kind of sad to see all the problems the people were dealing with.
  • Elizabethtown
It was interesting, but not one of my favorites.
  • The Pink Panther
Blair and I really liked this movie. I was kind of silly and had LOTS of physical comedy, but it made me laugh. A lot. Mark was not so crazy about it.
  • Skeleton Key
Finally got a chance to see this. Blair had seen it at the movies and wanted to watch it again with us. LOTS of suspense, but why does she keep going in scary places?? Interesting ending too. If you like suspense, this one is for you.
  • Junebug
This is kind of an arty character study film. It is about a couple who own an art gallery and go to North Carolina to visit a folk artist that they want to sign with their gallery. He lives in the same town as the husband of the couple, so they stay with his peculiar family. It was OK, but nothing to get excited about. I rented it because one of the actresses was nominated in the best supporting role. Also, I thought it might be OK for Blair to watch. NOPE. It is PG13, but there are a few scenes that are just not appropriate.
  • Tristian and Isolde
**** I took Blair and her friend Gina. We all gave it a THUMBS UP!!! Boy, people were so cruel and vicious in the dark ages! We were so glad the nasty lookin dude Isolde was supposed to marry got killed in a battle. I also say kudos to Lord Marke for some of his decisions.
  • Memoirs of a Geisha
*** As good as I expected. Although it did not get good ratings, Blair and I enjoyed it SO VERY MUCH! I had read the book a while ago, so I was really looking forward to it, and I was not disappointed.
  • Glory Road
**** WONDERFUL!!! What an incredible story and fantastic movie. We all LOVED IT!!!!
  • Last Holiday
I really liked it. Queen Latifa is great and if you like her other movies, you will like this. I took Blair and her friend and they liked it as well.
  • King Kong
*** All three of us saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Great story and lots of suspense. Lots of really nasty creatures too!!!! YUCK. Also, I had a hard time at the end of the movie with the scenes on top of the empire state building. Just thinking about being up that high scares the beejeebers out of me!!!
  • Cheaper by the Dozen 2
Great kids movie! I laughed out loud (which Blair did not like). She enjoyed it too.
  • The Family Stone
I liked it LOTS, but it had an unexpected twist that I was not prepared for. * You may need tissues.
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
** Excellent (as always)! I'll be purchasing this one for sure! If you like the other Harry Potter movies, you will really like this too!
  • Walk the Line
*** Excellent!!! Makes me want to go get a Johnny Cash CD!

Au Revoir (for the weekend)...

100_8639 We are heading over to Hollywood beach for the weekend...Hopefully the weather will be better than it was on Memorial Day weekend. At the time we called about our rooms (about 2 weeks ago), we were the only people staying at our hotel that weekend...cool. Lots of reading and relaxation...and not too much sun. Blair is bringing 2 friends, so they will be staying in an ajoining room and I'm sure there will be lots of girl-talk. Some of our friends are planning to come one evening for drinks and trivia. YEAH!!!

The photo is another little snippet from the project I have been working on. I am really liking the pretty yellow flocked wallpaper!!

Last night was Freshman/Parent orientation, where we got to meet Blair's teachers. I am happy to say that I liked them all and feel much better about her classes. Almost makes me want to go to school. It was so cute...her biology teacher had all the adorable little 'back to school' cutouts (like you would see in elementary school) all around her classroom, even hanging from the ceiling. Now that took some work! I think that will be a nice distraction when disecting critters. Really loved the Geometry teacher, so enthusiastic...she would rather teach geometry than any other math class....COOL!!! Oh, and her spanish teacher is not hispanic...she learned her language in school...I think that really will make an great impression on the kids not coming from a spanish-speaking home. Blair has her first test in spanish (and geometry) today, so hopefully she will do well. We were practicing habla-ing in espanole last evening. I also had to tease Blair that she likes her english class so much because her teacher has posters of Leonardo DiCaprio (in Romeo and Juliet) around.

Well, that's about all for now...Hope you have a safe and most wonderful weekend!!!

Just a little peek...

Marie_antoinette_yellow_flower_only At some teeny parts of a new project I started. Been spending most of my free time working on it and I have been having bunches of fun. Lots of pretty color combos and plenty of bling. Wish I could share more, but I promised I would keep it under wraps.

Marie_antoinette_frame_head_only Here is another little snippet...

So, what else...Blair has settled into school and keeping quite busy. She spent most of last weekend working on a study guide for her summer reading book. Let me tell you, those questions were HARD! As I mentioned in the previous post, I took my first golf lesson on Monday. Didn't even hit 1 ball...just worked on stance and stretching. I think it will get better once I can hit something...great way to take out the ole frustrations...as long as I CAN hit the ball. Lots to remember though!!! Oh, and last evening I finally watched Friends with Money. YUCK. Too many people with too many problems. (I think I said the same thing about Running With Scissors). Did not care for it at all. Oh well...can't love them all!!!

Hope your week is going well and you are enjoying the end of the summer...(course you won't know when summer ends and fall begins in this neck o' the woods)...

A New Adventure...

Three_stooges_golf_with_your_friend Tomorrow I will be starting a new adventure...or maybe I should say revisiting an old adventure. I signed up for golf lessons with my friend Melissa and her husband Dale. Actually Dale wasn't planning to go, but I think Melissa may have made him feel a bit guilty, so he decided to join us. I tried to get Mark to come along, but his work is too intense and unpredictable, so he will loose out on some extra practice. Got to go drag out my clubs from the cabinet in the garage, and dust off the old golf shoes. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't hit any golf balls near any cars or people...then again, with my hand-eye coordination, I will be happy if I can get any golf balls to move off the tee!!! Wish me luck!!!

It's been a LONG week...

100_8628 As you may remember, in my previous post I mentioned that Blair was starting High School on Monday...Here she is all ready to go with her new uniform, feeling full of nerves and excitement.  Well, things have been pretty challenging...not the work in the classes...just getting the blasted schedule fixed. It took until THURSDAY to get it all corrected. How can something that is not that hard take so long??? I even anticipated that this would happen (pretty scary), that they would place her in the wrong math class. I called 3 times over the summer and left messages to try and ensure she would not get the wrong math class. Didn't matter that the math class she took last year was THERE, and she made a 95, so they should have had ALL the appropriate info needed to place her in the correct class...but they didn't. Been fuming over this all week...plus they gave her the wrong elective that she did not like either. Based on all the experiences we have had prior to school starting, and from things I have heard from other parents, I am not surprised. I am hoping that it may get a bit smoother starting this week, but I know already that it is gonna be a LONG 4 years! 100_8631 On a much better note, she really likes Spanish and feels she is really learning a lot. She is also happy that one of her good friends is in her religion class. They have now given her art as an elective, and she is happy with that too. We will be going to orientation night this Thursday, so it will be quite interesting to meet the teachers and hear what they have to say.

In addition to this, I finally got a chance to see a few films. First up, The World's Fastest Indian starring Anthony Hopkins. Excellent film about an older man from New Zealand that is intested in setting a land speed record with his motorcycle (the Indian). Mark and I both enjoyed this. Last evening, we went (at Blair's request) to see The Nanny Diaries. This was fun to watch, yet sad to think that there are people like those portrayed in the film. Blair read the book and said that the ending was a bit different...seems like that is pretty common.

Last, but not least, I am working on some things for a round robin, but have had no time to scan anything to give a sneaky peek...I need to get it out by end of the week, so I will try to give a little snippet (because I can't share the whole thing) later in the week.

Hope everyone is doing well and starting a fun and happy weekend!!!

Alphabetica...More Marie...

100_8623_25 I know you are probably tired of seeing the same stamps, but as I mentioned before, I often will do multiples of something I plan to use again. Well, I had another Alphabetica journal ready and waiting. The instructions for this journal (which belongs to Ms. Lainie) were to select a word and then interpret it. Since the letter "Q" was not already taken, I selected the word QUEEN and used a couple of Marie Antoinette images to tie in with the theme. The background is wallpaper and sheet music. Embellishments are vintage rhinestones, silver glittered chipboard, velvet, crepe paper, and a few vintage flowers. I am ready to get this journal packed up and have it heading North this week.

Can't believe I actually got this page finished because we had quite a busy weekend. We were up at the crack o' dawn to do a garage sale with a friend of Mark's. Had to drag all our stuff over to his house at o' dark thirty. Sat out in the hot sun (thankfully it was not rain) til about 11am when we decided we were done. I think we were lucky to have made $10. Next time we will be doing it at Mom's house where the traffic is much better!! Oh, how I wanted to come home and take a nap, but alas that was not to be. Dropped all the left-overs at the Salvation Army, run by Mom's to get Beula, run home and shower, go grocery shopping, then headed to church for 5pm mass. Grabbed some dinner, then went home and somehow managed to stay awake to watch The Illusionist. It was enjoyable, but I probably would have liked it better if I wasn't so tired. Sunday, we had Mark's Mom and Sister over to celebrate his Mom's birthday. Lots of time to visit and catch up.

So tomorrow is the BIG DAY...Blair's first day of High School. Keeping our fingers crossed that all will go well!!!

Also wanted to mention that we saw the movie Mostly Martha last week. This is a German film that is the story No Reservations was based on. I enjoyed it and although Blair fell asleep, I think she liked it too. Some of the parts are totally identical (which was kinda strange), but the ending is a little different. Overall, I would recommend it.

Well...better head off to bed. The alarm clock starts going off an hour earlier tomorrow (yuck).

Ooh La La....

Ooh_la_la_marie_25 I got some new stamps!!!! Been squeezing in a bit of fun using them...well, not even all of them yet. Miss Marie is just too too fun and I just can't stop. I seem to be in a blue/purple mode too. Hmmm...do you ever get to using a certain color combo and just have to stay in that mode for a while??? I sure do. But then I get that way with food too. If I find something new that I like, I will want to eat it at least once a day. Ahhh...but I digress...back to the stamping...

I must give credit to so many wonderul bloggers who have been doing all sorts of fun Marie Antoinette projects, but especially to Lisa Guerin, who creates the most lovely projects using this stamp. So, just for fun (and because I have been uber-inspired), I rented Marie Antoinette again. I first saw this at the movies and although I did not care much for the story (lots of fluff, not much plot), I did think it was one of the prettiest movies I've seen in a long time. I decided I needed to take another look at all the beautiful clothes, shoes, and desserts!! Took out the sketchbook and "drew" rough sketches of some of the different things I want to remember. (I use quotes because drawing is not something I do very well). Want to find a way to incorporate them into some future project (as if I don't have enough fun things on my plate already).

We are enjoying the last few days before school starts on Monday. Last evening, Blair and I went to see Becoming Jane. We both enjoyed it quite a bit. That's about all for now. Hope you are having a wonderful week!!!

p.s. Yeah I know, that pour vous card is crooked...sorry. Marie_a_doll_2_25

This and That...

Partea_time_2 Lots going on lately...seems like there is never enough time to be creative. I did manage to create this card (over several nights) for my friend (who also shares the same birthday as my Dad). The focal image is from Character Constructions, as is the TEA letters. I love these letters, so I decided to do a play on the word PARTY. The floral image is a rub-on.  Now I know you may be saying "that image looks too familiar...oh yes, she just used it on the last creative post". Well, that is true, but a helpful hint of mine is...as long as you are stamping an image once, you might as well stamp it a few more times cuz you might need to use it again soon!

I have managed to see quite a few movies...First up is The Painted Veil, starring Edward Norton and Naomi Watts. Lovely period film set in 1920s China. Very Merchant-Ivory I think. Most enjoyable. Next was Factory Girl starring Sienna Miller. Story of Edie Sedgewick and her relationship with Andy Warhol. Not really my cup-o-tea. Too much weirdness. Too many self-absorbed people. Some parts were rather unsuitable for the kiddos too. Friday night we saw No Reservations with Catherine Zeta-Jones...LOVED IT!!! All 3 of us really enjoyed this movie. Some sad parts will bring you to tears, but it is totally worth the watch. Last up, Bourne Ultimatum with Matt Damon. Super action film. Lots going on, very fast paced. Mark and I both enjoyed it!!

Took Blair and her friend down to Miami to do a bit of shopping on Saturday. The girls had a great time and Blair actually found some jeans that she liked. SCORE! Today, I have spent ALL DAY tinkering with Blair's old laptop. Can't believe I haven't smashed it on the floor yet. Everything I try to install seems to be a big problem. Linksys tech support was useless too. I sure hope for all the effort I have put into this monster-machine it will work properly for a while.

Hope you are having a MOST LOVELY Weekend!!!

Party On Dude...Virtual Style...

Abba_chiquitita_25 Miss Kari, aka Artsymama is having a virtual blogging party, so I decided to join in the fun. She asked everyone to share either a tutorial or something creative, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show you the most recent creation for the Alphabetical round robin I am participating in. This was quite a challenge in that we had to select something from an ABBA song to inspire us. WOW. I haven't listened to ABBA since the late 70's or so, although they were one of my favorites back then. I was trying to get inspiration from lyrics that were not already used by one of the other artists, so I ended up using words from the song Chiquitita. I thought this worked pretty well with the image and the bird. Used a bit of sheet music which was gesso'd over for the arch (also a little something new I wanted to try). Now, I must admit that I had the most lovely background originally, but I chose to handwrite the words to the song. MISTAKE. I really don't care for my handwriting. So I was not happy with the look...no problem, just whip out some new paint for the background (being careful not to get any on the things that are already attached, and repaint. I like it much better with the stamped words. In case you can not tell, the woman has a pretty lace skirt and a belt of velvet and rhinestones. The woman is a stamp from Character Constructions, and the little snippet of wording in the arch says, "A PRETTY PAIR INDEED". Well, Heather...hope you like the latest addition to your journal!

A Little Trip to Big D...

100_8474 Took a little mini vacation and headed out to Dallas to see family. Blair left almost a week before us, so she could have a bit more time. I did not realize it, but it has actually been about 4 years since I've been there, even longer for Mark. Although it was in the middle of Summer and kinda hot, it was actually more pleasant than in Florida. We actually could sit in the shade of the patio and not feel like we were sweating to death. We didn't do a whole lot of things, but I did get to go to one of my favorite restaurants, La Madeleine, for some tomato basil soup. YUMMY!!! Oh how I wish they would put that restaurant in this area!! We relaxed by the pool, and also spent on day at a place called Gaylord Texan. It is VERY large hotel with nice restaurants, indoor gardens and waterfalls, and a few shops. Kinda reminds me of an Embassy Suites with everything under a huge glass domed roof. Took lots of photos there. If you are interested, I loaded some of the photos into an album called Dallas 2007 on the left.

While there, we also got a chance to watch Apocalypto. In case you are not familiar with it, this movie (directed by Mel Gibson) takes place at the end of the Mayan civilization. It was very suspenseful and fast paced (think Die Hard) but all done in a foreign language (subtitles). LOTS of gore and brutality. Certainly not for the faint of heart. I would recommend it if you like action and can get past the yucky parts. Oh, and we watch a little extra on the DVD about the making of this movie that was really good!! In addition to this, I finished the latest Somerset Studio, Artful Blogging, and Somerset Home magazines. I also started (and almost finished) In this House. LOVE this book...cool techinques, and each artist decorated a house form book. The back of the book also has a bit of clip art and the form to create your own house. I think I will be adding this to my list o' projects I want to do. (Yes, I know...this list seems to grow by leaps and bounds). So, today, I am just playing catch-up...unpacking, laundry, odds and ends. Tomorrow, back to work. Hope all is well with you and have have had a most enjoyable and creative time during the last few days. Hope to show you my latest Alphabetica entry this week...so hope you will check back again!!  (p.s. In case you were wondering, yes, I have been playing with Photoshop on some of these photos).100_8467_tweaked 100_8463_tweaked 100_8486_tweaked
