Got inspired my Mr. Tim's first tag and decided to create a card based on it. Went to the scrapbook store to pick up a few items (and maybe some other stuff) I needed to create a version of his pretty tag. Got the Noel all nicely cut and glittered. Then did the embossing of the snowflakes, but used a clear sparkly embossing powder rather than white. Not the same effect, but sanded the tops of the snowflakes and decided to just move on. Then I got to the cutting of the pretty greenery. That is where I lost it. Had all sorts of issues with this die and got a few of the larger, less intricate things cut (pine cone, leaves), but the detailed stuff would not cut for me at all. Bad words were said. It was not pretty. Tried my old Sizzix, as well as the Cuttlebug. I am going to get a lesson this evening to see if I can make it work better. Trying to decide about investing in the TH electric machine. I'll let you know what happens. Once I started to put the card together, I noticed that the glitter was not being very cooperative at staying on the grungeboard. More curse words were said. Soooo, I ended up painting the other Noels silver before glittering them. It will make it less easy to see if the glitter falls off, but also has a more grabby feel for the glue and glitter to stick to. Anyhow, here is the first card I made. Got a few more whipped out, but used an old holly punch, a paper poinsettia, and some rhinestones in place of the die cuts used on this card. I also tried using my versamark pad (because I think my distress embossing pad is dry and have not been able to find a re-inker) and opaque white embossing powder. This works pretty good for creating a snowy effect on the embossed background. I plan to be back at creating this evening, so wish me luck!
Decorating recap: Outside lights are up. Mr. blow-up Grinch looks like he may be heading for the trash can. He seems to have some rips and is not staying up anymore. Bummer. Inside, the Thanksgiving decorations have been packed away for another year, but Christmas decorations have not been pulled out. Trying to get my cards done and out-of-town gifts wrapped before I tackle inside decorating.
Holiday shopping is getting closer to completion, but still have a few more items to pick up. Had to go to the mall on Saturday and it was already madness. Had the worst experience at Macy's too. While purchasing something, the girl barely acknowledged me during the transaction while she was on the phone or talking to others. The item I puchased was on sale, but didn't ring up on sale, so I had to tell her to make a price correction. Went into a dressing room to try on something (had to wait in a line just to get in) and once in there it was just so dirty. Yuck! We definitely need some better malls in my area. You would think Ft. Lauderdale would have nice malls, but you would be wrong. Seems I have to travel to North Miami or Boca for a nicer mall experience.
Got a chance to watch Crazy, Stupid, Love with Mr. Mark on Saturday evening and he really enjoyed it. Miss B and I saw it at the theater when it first came out, loved it, and knew right away he needed to see it. Especially the shopping scenes, since Miss B is always trying to get her dad to dress a bit more hip.
Well, you are about caught up with what is going on here. Hope you had a great weekend, and Happy Monday!
