After quite a long time, I was finally able to participate a GPP Street Team crusade! This month, the theme is to play with gesso. This was a perfect idea to use in my DC journal (the project that seems to go on forever).
I selected this page that I had previously prepped with watercolors in pink and black. On top of that, I stamped the images using gesso. After that, I added some watercolor crayon in pink, which I then washed over using water to blend. This gives the gesso a light pink tone, rather than a stark white.
Next step was to add some additional elements to complete the journal page. The photo was taken at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indians.
Here is one more page using gesso. As in the previous page, the first step was to add watercolor washes. After that, gesso was stamped onto the page. Next, I took ink and sponged it on the page. The last step was to add watercolor crayon around the edges of the page, blending with my finger. I plan to finish this page in a similar manner as the previous page, incorporating a photo, decorative papers, embellishments, and some journaling.
Although I have used gesso in the past, I frequently forget to incorporate it into my projects. Thanks Michele for the reminder and encouragement!!!
Hope you find time to rediscover the fun of gesso!
One word - WOW. Well ok, not really sure that WOW is an actual word, but this are WOW.

Definitely WOW! Barbara - happy to see you back playing with us. Thanks for shaowing your terrific gesso pages - love the watercolor under. Fun to see the background page, and then finished. Bravo!

I've been playing with gesso too...first with the challenge, but then I kept going! I forgot all about my wonderful watercolor crayons. Now I'll have to get the gesso out again and try your smart lil technique!
